As summer was ending the world was not prepared for an oceanic battle – Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria, and Nate came galloping in like an uninvited house guest. As the nation stayed glued to their TV’s and smartphones, tracking one monstrosity after another, news stations were foreshadowing devastation that became a harsh reality shortly after.
Accomplishing tasks of getting people, families and animals safe was a monumental mission that brought the surrounding communities and nation together. With technology being a prominent part of our everyday life, people tend to forget that technology disasters can coincide with earth’s natural tendencies.
Strategizing a solution to provide food, water and shelter to hurricane victims could not have been possible without the support of the American Red Cross. Not only are they a trusted partner with AMI Strategies, but to hundreds of thousands of people nationwide – donating their time, money, and blood.
Every day, AMI’s Mobility Helpdesk was on the receiving end of a hurricane, helping client’s or employees that have left their devices behind, have a broken one, or need a new one. The help desk team was reactive during the devastation – monitoring packages containing employees’ phones, chargers, MiFi (mobile hot spots) and keeping them updated throughout the devices journey. Today, mobile devices are lifelines- getting them up and running and having them stay functional and secure is a top priority in the technology-fueled environment we live in.
Planning can help limit the impact of technology related disasters. By creating a consistent mobile policy, clear direction can be given to appropriate stakeholders so that he/she knows exactly what to do in any circumstance. And, of course there has never been a more important time in history due to the politics and natural disasters to keep devices secure. Implementing a solid security policy can allow you to get back what was lost even with the destruction that mother nature did.
Remember, even the best laid plans can go awry, so it’s best to have a plan in place to recover when disaster strikes.
